Year-Round Programs

At AdaptAbilities, we are committed to building capacity, understanding, and opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

 

 

 

 

Our programs provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to learn, succeed and grow all year round!

Our goal-oriented year-round respite programs are thoughtfully organized by our Community Specialists to provide participants with an inclusive space to learn and grow.

We work with individuals with visible and invisible disabilities that may include:

    • Learning Disabilities
    • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    • Down Syndrome
    • Autism
    • Anxiety Disorders
    • Cerebral Palsy
    • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
    • Tourette’s Syndrome
    • Other needs

Year-round programs are
designed to teach participants:

  • Essential life skills
  • Expressive arts and recreations; and,
  • Motor development

These programs include:

  • BeYou Rec and Social Program

    Come as YOU are and join us for fun, friendships, and belonging. Planned activities may include swimming, fitness centre, open play in gymnasium, indoor playground, and a variety of other recreational activities! Participants should come prepared to swim each day in addition to 2-3 other activity choices.

    This program is for kids with a high level of independence and can succeed in a group ratio. If your child is not within the specified age range but you are interested in signing up for a specific day, please inquire.

    BeYou runs year-round. There are three 10-week sessions:

    Fall: Sept 25 – Dec 12, 2025
    Winter: Jan 8 – Mar 28, 2026
    Spring: Apr 9 – Jun 20, 2026

    Locations:

    • Meadows Recreation Centre (2704 17 St NW)
    • Terwillegar Recreation Centre (2051 Leger Rd NW)
    • Clareview Recreation Centre (3804 139 Ave NW)
    • Leduc Recreation Centre (4330 Black Gold Dr)

    Schedule:

    Thursdays: 5:30-9:30 p.m. (13-17 yrs) *Clareview and Meadows only
    Fridays: 5:30-9:30 p.m. (9-12 yrs)
    Saturdays: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. (9-12 yrs) *collecting interest for Leduc

    Please note: Leduc has a 6 p.m. start time

  • Weekend Respite

    Programs run 11:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturdays. There are four 10-week sessions:

    Fall: Sept 27- Dec 13, 2025
    Winter: Jan 10 – Mar 28, 2026
    Spring: Apr 11 – Jun 27, 2026
    Summer: Jul 4 – Aug 29, 2026

    Locations:

    • McKernan Centre (Ages 3-12)
    • Millbourne Market Mall (Ages 3-12 and 13-17)
    • Orange Hub (Ages 3-12 and 13-17)
    • Whyte Ave (Ages 18+)
    • St. Albert (Ages 3-12)

    Daily Activity and Centre Fee:
    $50/session (3-12) and $100/session (13-17)

    Payment is made by pre-authorized debit or credit card.

  • Community Connect

    Our daytime Community Connect program provides a meaningful community for individuals with disabilities. This program is for adults who have finished high school. This program encourages social engagement, community access, and building independence for the individuals we support.

    Community Connect runs from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

    Before Care: 7:30 – 9:00 a.m.
    After Care: 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

    Locations:

    • Whyte Ave (10130 82 Ave NW)
    • St. Albert (7 St. Anne St)

    Program Fee: $150/month

  • Hearts in Action Year-Round Camp

    We are open to provide fun, engaging and purposeful activities during PD days, exam weeks, Winter and Spring breaks. Registration for PD days and exam weeks are limited to participants who receive work-related care/extraordinary child care only through FSCD. For adults, a PDD contract is required outlining supports for non-school days.

    Programs:

    1. All Public School PD Days
    2. All Catholic School PD Days
    3. August Respite – August 25-29
    4. Exam Break – Last 2 weeks of January`
    5. Exam Break – Last 2 weeks of June
    6. Winter Break – Week 1
      December 22-24, 2025
    7. Winter Break – Week 2
      December 29-31, 2025 and January 2, 2026
    8. Teachers’ Convention – 2 days
      February 26-27, 2026
    9. Spring Break Week
      March 30- April 2, 2026

    Daily Activity and Centre Fee: $10/day
    Fees will be collected at the end of each month by pre-authorized credit card for services used during that month.

  • Out-of-School-Programs

    Ages 12–17: The Out-of-School program is designed for children over the age of 12, who require a little extra support after school and are no longer able to access a daycare.

    Transportation: Parents, check with your child’s school to see if your child is eligible for bus transportation to one of our centres. AdaptAbilities staff will meet the school bus.

    Ages 18 +: Our High School Transition Program supports individuals over 18 who are continuing their high school education.

    Locations:

    • Millbourne Market Mall (3697 Mill Woods Rd NW)
    • St. Albert (7 St. Anne Street)

    Hours: 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
    *Thursdays run 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. to accommodate early dismissal

    Note: A 3-hour minimum billing time applies for each day

  • Social Nights
    • Our Social Nights provide purposeful programming. Participants meet friends, build relationships, learn new skills, and, most importantly, have fun.

      Centres come fully equipped with appropriate activities and resources for participants with disabilities. We also explore our community for weekly planned group activities.

      This program is for youth and young adults who can succeed in a group ratio. If your child is not within the specified age range but you are interested in signing up for a specific day, please inquire.

      Social nights run year-round on Thursdays and Fridays. There are three 10-week sessions:

      Fall: Sept 25 – Dec 13, 2025
      Winter: Jan 8 – Mar 27, 2026
      Spring: Apr 9 – Jun 19, 2026

      Each week will have a different activity planned, divided into the following groups:

      Adult (18+): Millbourne Market Mall, Orange Hub (5:30 – 9:30 p.m.)
      Teens (Ages 13-17): McKernan (5:30 – 9:30 p.m.)


      St. Albert

      Please Note: Our Winter session is running from February 19-March 27!

      Adults: Thursdays, 5:30-9:30 p.m.
      Teens: Fridays, 5:30-9:30 p.m.

      NEW! Cooking Class Social Night (18+) 

      Hands-on cooking, grocery shopping, and expert guidance!

      Millbourne Respite Centre

      Mondays: 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
      $300 for 8 sessions
      January 12 – March 31, 2026 (tentative)

  • Remote Support Program

    For adults 18+, the Remote Support Program is a new online program that provides opportunities to build community and offers a range of programs tailored to an individual’s needs and goals. Those outside Edmonton are welcome to join the program and participants can connect with one another at any time.

    To participate, participants will need a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a reliable internet connection to connect to a Discord server.

    Set Programs are offered (times subject to change):

    Tuesday: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. MDT – Cooking Class
    Thursday: 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. MDT – Yoga
    Sunday:  6:30 to 8:30 p.m. MDT – Gaming
