Program Information and Registration

We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule programs due to the number of registrations we receive, staff availability or Covid-restrictions.

  • BeYou Rec and Social Program

    Come as YOU are to AdaptAbilities’ BeYou program, in partnership with the City of Edmonton. Are you ready for a GREAT time? Join us for fun, friendships, and belonging.

    Planned activities may include swimming, skating, fitness centre, open play in gymnasium, indoor playground, and a variety of other recreational activities! Participants should come prepared to swim each day in addition to 2-3 other activity choices.

    Parents! Enjoy a date night or much-needed time to yourself, while we provide a safe and welcoming environment for your kids.

    The BeYou program will be launching on April 4, 2024 at the Meadows Community Recreation Centre. This program is for kids with a high level of independence and can succeed in a group ratio.

    10 Week Session

    Schedule:

    Thursday: 5:30 – 9:30 pm (13-17 yrs)
    Friday: 5:30 – 9:30 pm (9-12 yrs)
    Saturday: 10 am – 2 pm (9-12 yrs)

  • Hearts in Action Summer Camp

    Our Hearts in Action summer camps create amazing possibilities for the best summer ever.

    Along with our incredible team, campers explore the city with friends, they get messy trying new activities and have fun enjoying new experiences in the community.

  • Hearts in Action Year-Round Camp

    We are open to provide fun, engaging and purposeful activities during PD days, exam weeks, Winter and Spring breaks. Registration for PD days and exam weeks are limited to participants who receive work-related care/extraordinary child care only through FSCD. For adults, a PDD contract is required outlining supports for non-school days.

    Programs:

    1. All Public School PD Days
    2. All Catholic School PD Days
    3. Exam Break – Last 2 weeks of January`
    4. Exam Break – Last 2 weeks of June
    5. Winter Break – Week 1
      December 27 – 29, 2023
    6. Winter Break – Week 2
      January 2 – 5, 2024
    7. Teacher’s Convention – 2 days
      February 29 – March 1, 2024
    8. Spring Break Week
      March 25 -28, 2024

    Daily Activity and Centre Fee: $10/day
    Fees will be collected at the end of each month by pre-authorized credit card for services used during that month.

  • Out-of-School Programs

    Ages 12 – 17: The Out-of-School program is designed for children over the age of 12, who require a little extra support after school and are no longer able to access a daycare.

    Transportation: Parents, check with your child’s school to see if your child is eligible for bus transportation to one of our centres. AdaptAbilities staff will meet the school bus.

    Locations: 


    Ages 18 +: Our High School Transition Program supports individuals over 18 who are continuing their high school education.

    2:30 pm – 6 pm
    *Thursdays – 2 pm – 6 pm to accommodate early dismissal

    Note: A 3-hour minimum billing time applies for each day

  • Community Connect

    Our daytime Community Connect program provides a meaningful community for individuals with diverse abilities. This program is for adults who have finished high school.

    This program encourages social engagement, community access and promotes building independence for the individuals we support.

    In-Person Community Connect: Monday to Friday
    9:00am – 3:00 pm
    Before care: 7:30 – 9:00 am
    After Care: 3:00 – 6:00 pm

    Locations:

    • McKernan Respite Centre
    • Orange Hub
    • Millbourne Market Mall

    Program Fee: $150/month

  • Social Nights

    Our Social Nights provide purposeful programming. Participants meet friends and build relationships, learn new skills and most importantly, have fun.

    Centres come fully-equipped with appropriate activities and resources for participants with diverse abilities. We also explore our community for weekly planned group activities.

    Social nights run year round. There are three sessions: Fall, Winter and Spring with 10 nights each you can register.

    In-Person Program (5:30 pm – 9:30 pm)

    As always, there will be a different event planned for each week divided into the following groups.

    Adult Groups- Thursday Evenings at the AdaptAbilities Support Office (Whyte Ave)

    Teen Groups (Ages 13-17) – Thursday Nights at McKernan Centre

    Registrations for our Spring Session (April-June) are OPEN.

  • Weekend Respite Programs

    Our Weekend Respite Programs are a great way for your child to meet friends and have fun.

    Programs are all 11 am – 4 pm:

    Saturday – McKernan Centre
    Before and After care available (10 – 11 am and 4 – 5 pm)

    Saturday – Orange Hub
    Before and After Care Available (10 – 11 am and 4 – 5 pm)

    Sunday – McKernan Centre
    11am – 4 pm

    Sunday – Orange Hub
    11am – 4 pm

    Daily Activity and Centre Fee:
    $5/day

    $10/day – 13+(Saturdays only)

    Payment is made by pre-authorized debit or credit card at the end of the month for the number of days your child attended.

    Registrations for our Spring Session (April-June) are OPEN .

  • In-Home Respite Care

    Our in-home respite services offer one-to-one support for individuals.

    This gives parents an essential break from caregiving so they can support their own well-being.

    Our experienced team creates possibilities for community engagement and connections.

    Program Fees: There are no program fees for In-Home Respite, however parents are responsible for out-of-pocket field trip or activity costs for staff and your child.

Important Q & A

  • How do I register for a program?

    If you are not currently an AdaptAbilities client, please call 780-431-8446 or fill out our Service Request Form to begin the intake process.

    If you are already a client, please select your program and complete your registration.

    To register:

    • Please familiarize yourself with our organization by reading the Parent Handbook located under Parent Resources.
    • Some of our programs require a deposit or pre-authorization on a credit card for Program Fees. See information below.
    • Your registration is not confirmed until you receive an email from a Program Supervisor letting you know if your spot is confirmed, or if you have been placed on a waitlist. We’ll let you know if we need any additional information.
  • What are your cancellation policies?

    If you need to cancel your service, please contact your Program Supervisor as soon as possible.

  • How much do programs cost and how do I pay?

    You may qualify for funding by completing an assessment with a government department like PDD or FSCD. This funding covers staff costs.

    We also charge Program Fees to pay for activities, transportation and facility costs.  Parents are responsible for these fees which vary based on the program (see program details and costs below).

    We have a bursary program available as we want our programs to remain accessible to all individuals who need them. For more information on how to apply for the bursary, please talk to your intake worker or Program Supervisor.

    To complete your registration, you will be directed to our online payment system.

  • Where are your programs located?

    Our centre-based programs are located throughout Edmonton. Summer camps are held in many communities.
    We offer in-home programs in your community.

  • What type of training do your staff have?

    Staff undergo the following training:

    • First Aid
    • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
    • Risk Management and Behavioral training for individuals with complex needs.
    • A variety of additional training focusing on a human rights approach
    • Staff requiring to administer medications are certified in Medication Administration.
