Program Information and Registration

We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule programs due to the number of registrations we receive, staff availability or Covid-restrictions. Families are responsible for knowing and understanding policies for our programs (i.e. cancellation/termination). Please refer to the Parent Handbook for more information.

  • Remote Support Program

    For adults 18+, the Remote Support Program is a new online program that provides opportunity to build community and offers a range of programs tailored to an individual’s needs and goals. Those outside Edmonton are welcome to join the program and participants can connect with one another at any time.

    To participate, participants will need a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a reliable internet connection to connect to a Discord server.

    Set Programs are offered (times subject to change):

    Tuesday: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. MDT – Cooking Class
    Thursday: 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. MDT – Yoga
    Friday:  6:30 to 8:30 p.m. MDT – Gaming

    AdaptAbilities is committed to ensuring that access to our programs is not restricted by financial limitations. Thanks to our generous donors, there is no cost to participate in this program for a limited time.

     

  • BeYou Rec and Social Program

    Come as YOU are and join us for fun, friendships, and belonging, in partnership with the City of Edmonton! Planned activities may include swimming, skating, fitness centre, open play in gymnasium, indoor playground, and a variety of other recreational activities! Participants should come prepared to swim each day in addition to 2-3 other activity choices.

    This program is for kids with a high level of independence and can succeed in a group ratio. If your child is not within the specified age range but you are interested in signing up for a specific day, please inquire.

    BeYou runs year-round. There are three 10-week sessions:

    Fall: Sept 19 – Dec 14, 2024
    Winter: Jan 9 – Mar 22, 2025
    Spring: Apr 3 – Jun 21, 2025

    Locations:

    • Meadows Recreation Centre (2704 17 St NW)
    • Terwillegar Recreation Centre (2051 Leger Rd NW)
    • Clareview Recreation Centre (3804 139 Ave NW)

    Schedule:
    Thursdays: 5:30-9:30 p.m. (13-17 yrs) *Clareview and Meadows only
    Fridays: 5:30-9:30 p.m. (9-12 yrs)
    Saturdays: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. (9-12 yrs)

  • Hearts in Action Summer Camp

    Our Hearts in Action summer camps create amazing possibilities for the best summer ever.

    Along with our incredible team, campers explore the city with friends, get messy trying new activities, and have fun enjoying new experiences in the community.

  • Hearts in Action Year-Round Camp

    We are open to provide fun, engaging and purposeful activities during PD days, exam weeks, Winter and Spring breaks. Registration for PD days and exam weeks are limited to participants who receive work-related care/extraordinary child care only through FSCD. For adults, a PDD contract is required outlining supports for non-school days.

    Daily Activity and Centre Fee: $10/day
    Fees will be collected at the end of each month by pre-authorized credit card for services used during that month.

  • Out-of-School Programs

    Ages 12–17: The Out-of-School program is designed for children over the age of 12, who require a little extra support after school and are no longer able to access a daycare.

    Transportation: Parents, check with your child’s school to see if your child is eligible for bus transportation to one of our centres. AdaptAbilities staff will meet the school bus.

    Ages 18 +: Our High School Transition Program supports individuals over 18 who are continuing their high school education.

    Hours: 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
    *Thursdays run 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. to accommodate early dismissal

    Note: A 3-hour minimum billing time applies for each day

  • Community Connect

    Our daytime Community Connect program provides a meaningful community for individuals with diverse abilities. This program is for adults who have finished high school. This program encourages social engagement, community access, and building independence for the individuals we support.

    Community Connect runs from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

    Before Care: 7:30 – 9:00 a.m.
    After Care: 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

    Locations:

    • Millbourne Market Mall (3697 Mill Wood Rd NW)

    Program Fee: $150/month

  • Social Nights

    Our Social Nights provide purposeful programming. Participants meet friends, build relationships, learn new skills, and, most importantly, have fun.

    Centres come fully equipped with appropriate activities and resources for participants with diverse abilities. We also explore our community for weekly planned group activities.

    Social nights run year-round on Thursdays. There are three 10-week sessions:

    Fall: Sept 19 – Dec 13, 2024
    Winter: Jan 9 – Mar 21, 2025
    Spring: Apr 3 – Jun 20, 2025

    Each week will have a different activity planned, divided into the following groups:

    Adult Groups – Millbourne Market Mall or Orange Hub (5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.)
    Teen Group (Ages 13-17) – McKernan Centre (5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.)
    Pre-teen Group (Ages 10-12) – Millbourne Market Mall (5:30-8:30 p.m.)

  • Weekend Respite Programs

    Programs run 11:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturdays (Fall, Spring, Winter and Summer Sessions)

    Locations:
    McKernan Centre (Ages 3-12)
    Millbourne Market Mall (Ages 3-12 and 13-17)
    Orange Hub (Ages 3-12 and 13-17)

    Daily Activity and Centre Fee:
    $5/day
    $10/day – 13+

    Payment is made by pre-authorized debit or credit card at the end of the month for the number of days your child attended.

  • In-Home Respite Care

    Our In-Home Respite Services offer one-to-one support for individuals. This gives parents an essential break from caregiving so they can support their own well-being. Our experienced team creates possibilities for community engagement and connections.

    Program Fees: There are no program fees for In-Home Respite; however, parents are responsible for out-of-pocket field trip or activity costs for staff and your child.

  • How do I register for a program?

    If you are not currently an AdaptAbilities client, please call 780-431-8446 or fill out our Service Request Form to begin the intake process.

    If you are already a client, please select your program and complete your registration.

    To register:

    • Please familiarize yourself with our organization by reading the Parent Handbook located under Parent Resources.
    • Some of our programs require a deposit or pre-authorization on a credit card for Program Fees. See information below.
    • Your registration is not confirmed until you receive an email from a Program Supervisor letting you know if your spot is confirmed, or if you have been placed on a waitlist. We’ll let you know if we need any additional information.
  • What are your cancellation policies?

    If you need to cancel your service, please contact your Program Supervisor as soon as possible.

  • How much do programs cost and how do I pay?

    You may qualify for funding by completing an assessment with a government department like PDD or FSCD. This funding covers staff costs.

    We also charge Program Fees to pay for activities, transportation, and facility costs. Parents are responsible for these fees, which vary based on the program (see program details and costs below).

    We have a bursary program available, as we want our programs to remain accessible to all individuals who need them. For more information on how to apply for the bursary, please talk to your intake worker or Program Supervisor.

  • Where are your programs located?

    Our centre-based programs are located throughout Edmonton. Summer camps are held in many communities.
    We offer in-home programs in your community.

  • What type of training do your staff have?

    Staff undergo the following training:

    • First Aid
    • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
    • Risk Management and Behavioral training for individuals with complex needs.
    • A variety of additional training focusing on a human rights approach
    • Staff required to administer medications are certified in Medication Administration.
