Hilary’s Story: Thriving with Support and Community
Hilary is a bright and compassionate young woman with a heart full of warmth. She loves going to the movies, singing along at concerts, browsing farmers’ markets, and attending church. Her creative side shines through her love of Diamond Art—a hobby that brings her both peace and joy. At home, she’s often in the kitchen baking cookies or whipping up something delicious alongside her In-Home Community Specialist.
Hilary is deeply connected to her family and often spends quality time with them. She looks forward to becoming an aunt one day, a role she anticipates with excitement. Hilary also cherishes experiences with friends and enjoys sharing laughter and meaningful connections.
In recent years, Hilary has experienced heightened anxiety and requires support to safely access the community. As a result, her mom often had little time to rest or take part in her own activities.
That changed when Hilary joined Community Connect—a program that introduced her to new friends and personal growth opportunities. With a trusted team by her side, she began exploring her city and developing important life skills to thrive. At the same time, her mom now has space to recharge and focus on herself.
Her mother reflects that the AdaptAbilities team members supporting Hilary are not just her support workers; they are also good friends who understand her deeply and genuinely care about her well-being.
Now, Hilary gives back by volunteering through Edmonton Meals on Wheels’ Feeding the Soul program, decorating bags for clients and spreading joy throughout the community. She’s also taken up knitting—a calming and creative outlet that helps her manage anxiety and express herself. Surrounded by care, friendship, and a growing sense of community, Hilary continues to blossom—one day at a time.
