Jag’s Journey at AdaptAbilities

Meet Jag! With four siblings, he has countless shared adventures with his family. One of his favorite pastimes is dirt biking and camping in the family RV, especially enjoying the comfort of his own bunk.

Jag started attending AdaptAbilities’ programs over ten years ago! After completing high school, Jag had no program to attend and spent nine months at home. Just when things seemed uncertain, a call from AdaptAbilities changed everything. PDD had approved a new program, and Jag was invited to join.

At first, the idea of a new routine was daunting. Jag is someone who thrives with routines and doesn’t adapt easily to change but with support and time, he adjusted with the Community Connect program which led to meeting people and gaining new experiences.

During the pandemic in 2020, Jag struggled after restrictions were lifted and would no longer attend Centre programming and DATS. The unwavering patience and encouragement of the AdaptAbilities team brought hope. Through small, steady steps, they worked together to reintroduce him to the Centre and take DATS to gain independence.

Today, Jag attends Community Connect once again. He loves going to J’Adore Dance for AdaptADance programming, walking the dogs from Dorenlee Darling Doodles and taking part in the Prairie Urban Farm gardening program. This past winter, the group completed a photography unit, which Jag immensely enjoyed as he has taken pictures at our Fundraising Dinners in the past.

In March 2023, Jag’s world grew a little brighter with the arrival of Jenny, a lovable Bernadoodle puppy gifted by Dorenlee Darling Doodles. Jenny brought with her a wave of joy and comfort. Jag talks about her constantly, takes her on walks, and ensures she is always well cared for. More than just a pet, Jenny has become a calming presence in his life, helping him refocus and brings out the most in Jag.

Jag’s family has stated, “Because of AdaptAbilities, Jag has a much fuller life. Everyone has been so patient, caring and accommodating.”

We are happy to have Jag a part of our programs and are excited to continue to watch him grow!
