Shelby’s Spark Reignites at HIA Summer Camp
Introducing Shelby! She adores her cats and dogs, enjoys Barbie, swimming, music, and loves to sing and perform! A social butterfly, she thrives in the company of others and loves to engage in lively conversations!
Shelby resides in a community primarily composed of senior residents, which concerned her mother about the potential for Shelby to feel isolated from peers her age. Having had a negative experience with in-person schooling, Shelby is now enrolled in an online school, making it more difficult to forge friendships.
Previously to receiving AdaptAbilities services, Shelby had participated in camps with other organizations, but sadly, the staff were unable to meet her needs, which took an emotional toll on her.
Shelby’s mom decided to try out a different program – Hearts in Action Summer Camp at AdaptAbilities and it was a hit!
At HIA camp, Shelby was able to explore the community and build meaningful friendships. Shelby enjoyed her time at and gained comfortability and a sense of belonging, always looking forward to another day. She was welcomed with open arms.
Anyone who knows Shelby recognizes her wonderful sense of humour. After her time at camp, she isn’t afraid to show it anymore. With newfound confidence, Shelby embraces her true self without fear of judgment and feels empowered and ready to take on the world!
