A Bridge to Belonging!
Meet Robel! One of his favourite pastimes is preparing stew alongside his mom, as he is truly passionate about cooking! He finds great joy in all water-related activities and loves to go swimming with his dad. He also loves embarking on long nature walks and exploring scenic trails!
In the past, Robel’s parents faced challenges in finding a suitable organization where Robel felt accepted. Previous summer camps failed to support and accommodate his needs, leading to challenging behaviours at home and increased worries for Robel.
Without any additional support, Robel’s older brother was frequently relied on. Often, Robel would join his mother at work if there was no other option. This situation caused stress for the family. Finding a camp where Robel could belong, be accepted for who he is, and feel safe and welcomed proved to be an immense challenge.
Robel’s family eventually learned about AdaptAbilities and was signed up for Hearts in Summer Action Camp! At camp, he had fun taking part in new experiences while forming meaningful connections with both team members and fellow participants.
Robel was being cared for in an environment where he felt safe and comfortable and could truly be himself. His family felt peace of mind, knowing that Robel was embraced and celebrated!
Eager to go to camp each day and explore the community, Robel’s happiness increased! He has exuded a newfound positive energy and attitude and is looking forward to attending camp next year!
