Jane’s Story
Jane is someone who finds joy in the simple things that make life meaningful. She loves spending time with her family and friends, adores animals, and is always eager to take part in activities. Whether she’s painting, swimming, or listening to music, Jane approaches each day with enthusiasm!
Before coming to AdaptAbilities, Jane was not very independent at home. Like many families, her loved ones wanted to help her build everyday life skills that would give her more confidence and freedom.
Since joining AdaptAbilities’ Community Connect program at McKernan Centre, Jane has made remarkable progress. She now enjoys eating her breakfast on her own and can eat and drink independently. She’s also learned practical daily living skills, like opening doors on her own and pressing the elevator button independently, while using her wheelchair.
While these accomplishments may seem like small moments, they represent something much bigger. Each new skill gives Jane greater confidence, increases her independence, and creates more opportunities for her to participate fully in everyday life.
For Jane and her family, these milestones are a reminder that with the right support, encouragement, and opportunities, independence can grow one step at a time.
